The Seattle Sea Scouts of Boys and Girls was started by Adam Johnson and Maria Jones in 2017. Adam was a homeless alcoholic for five years, and after he attended rehab at The Recovery Village in Washington, he started doing volunteer work for various organizations. He met Maria Jones while volunteering for an organization that helped children after school.

He found that volunteering was an amazing thing he could do with his life. He found that working with children was the most rewarding thing he could be doing, and it helped him to stay sober and have something to live for.

Maria Jones had a history of organizing volunteer efforts and non-profit organizations so when Adam approached Maria about starting a new club for boys and girls, she was excited to be able to help him. Now she is the leader of the girls side of The Seattle Sea Scouts of Boys and Girls, and he is the leader of the boys side.
